My favorite lyrics are from a band called Driver Friendly, the top 1 is a short song called "Why don't you just rain on me?"

    The lyrics:

"Sing me to sleep with the songs that you keep under the bedroom floor.
I will stay awake for every moment that fades, I will sleep no more".

    And that's the whole song.

Another Story by The Head and the Heart

    I see a world
A world turning in on itself
    Are we just like
Hungry wolves howling in the night
I don't want no music tonight

Can we go on like it once was

Every time I hear another story
Oh the poor boy lost his head
    Everybody feels a little crazy
But we go on living with it
Yeah they go on living with it

    I'll tell you one thing
    We ain't gonna change much
    The sun still rises
    Even with the pain

    Marionettes by The Zolas

There's comfort in a holding hand
A schedule on which you depend
A cage in which you're snugly penned
    That's what we have become
A cyclone in a glass of wine
We both have wishbones for a spine.
But how long will we play this record's tattered side
    Afraid to change the song?

Post War Blues by Dan Mangan

Let's start a war for the kids
A purpose for which to unite
Make them some words they can mince
    What they don't know
    They won't mind
Find them a foe for the fight
And stories to tell as they age
    Then maybe time will decide
Which ones keep and which ones fade

There's the deepest sleep in my blood
From which I am slowly coming to
And every morning i wait for the news
    Oh, this is,
    This is post war blues

Make me a means to an end
Make me an ending in sight
    Make me insightful again
    What I can't see
    I can't fight
Make me a fire to burn
Burn all the letters I wrote
Write me a list of concerns
    If we are at peace
    If we are at peace
    I wanna know

There's the deepest sleep in my blood
From which I am slowly coming to
And every morning I wait for the news
    Oh, this is
    This is post war blues
    Oh, this is
    This is post war blues

    Basket by Dan Mangan.

    Favourite part.

    We are old
And our son took the dog away
And fair enough, guess we're tired all the time
    All the time
And you know dogs they need ample time outside

    So I'll stay but I'm telling you I don't, I don't wanna stay
So I'll brace myself against the wall and hope to God that I don't fall
My bones are worn, my hip won't hold
I used to be so young, how did I get so old?
Won't you take my cane and hold my hand
You're holding onto all I have
Just a basket full of memories
And I am losing more each day it seems
But if I can make it to the street
I'll steal a car or a bike whatever there is to steal
And it might get cold I just don't care
I'm going 'til I'm getting there
I'll ride my steed all through this town
'Til I have looked and I have found
    Your peaceful memory
    Won't you return to me?
    Won't you return to me?

    Currently; Tragedy+Time by Rise Against

So don't hold back, let it shape you like an ocean
Even the deepest scars in time will fade

Nothing matters but the pain when you're alone
    Never-ending nights when you're awake
When you're praying that tomorrow it's okay
There will be a time to crack another smile
Maybe not today or for awhile
But we're holding on to laugh again some day
Yeah, we're holding on to laugh again some day

And sometimes you have to go back
To know just where you have been
But we're old enough to know that
What has been, will be again and again

    And the bravest of faces
Are the ones where we fake it
In the roles that we play

Nothing matters when the pain is all but gone
    When you are finally awake
Despite the overwhelming odds, tomorrow came

And when they see you crack a smile
And you decide to stay a while
You'll be ready then, to laugh again

    Nothing matters but the pain
(We are tragedy, yeah, we are sympathy)
    Nothing matters but the pain
You see what you want to see

    Nothing matters but the pain
(We are misery, and distant memories)
    Nothing matters but the pain
We all learned to laugh again
Yeah, we all learned to laugh again
We all learned to laugh again

    "Queen Of The Gas Station"

    Give me coffee, king-sized cup
Come on, kitty cat, fill her up
    What's your name, little buttercup?
That's for me to know and you to make up

    Love casinos, Indian reservations
But, baby, if you love me, take me to the gas station
    Gas station

Look at you smoking in them neon lights
Under the thunder, oh, you look so nice
Made me wonder how you spend them nights
Me, I spend them looking for men I might like
    Like you
    Like you
    Like you

    Love casinos, Indian reservations
But, baby, if you love me, take me to the gas station
Take me to the gas station

    Give me coffee, Utah love
I'm the kind of girl you dream of
I'm trying to tell you what I dream of
    And that's gas stations
With slurpee machines and organs playing

    Preferably with smoking inside
    If you can swing it
Can I be real pleased if we could find one just like here
Again, again, again, again, again, again
Again, again, again, again, again, again

    Love casinos, Indian reservations
But, baby, if you love me, take me to the gas station
    Gas station
    Gas station
    Gas station
    Gas station

I love this part of 'National Anthem' by Lana Del Rey:

It's a love story for the new age
    For the six page
We're on a quick sick rampage
    Wining and dining
    Drinking and driving
    Excessive buying
    Overdose and dyin'
On our drugs and our love
And our dreams and our rage
Blurring the lines between real and the fake
    Dark and lonely
I need somebody to hold me
    He will do very well
I can tell, I can tell
Keep me safe in his bell tower, hotel

    I love the line

Look to the stars, let hope burn in your eyes.

    It's Muse, Stockholm Syndrome.
But there are sooo many great lyrics! I'll try to think of more.

Fade Away by Oasis, along with being my top Oasis song and one of my top songs in general, has my absolute favorite lyrics

    When I was young
I thought I had my own key
I knew exactly what I wanted to be
    Now I'm sure
    You've boarded up every door

    Lived in a bubble
    Days were never ending
    Was not concerned
    About what life was sending
    Fantasy was real
    Now I know much
    About the way I feel

    I'll paint you the picture
'Cause I don't think you live round here no more
    I've never even seen
    The key to the door
We only get what we will settle for

    While we're living
The dreams we have as children
    Fade away
"Rock and roll will never die because Neil Young said so."

"And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul."
Nearly everything Led Zeppelin probably fits this for me. I thought of Tom Waits initially, but without the voice and delivery behind it everything sounds either more or less serious then it comes across.

Some children died the other day
We fed machines and then we prayed
Puked up and down in morbid faith
You should have seen the ratings that day
    - The Nobodies by Marilyn Manson
It's a bit sad when you realize what the song's about, but I've always appreciated the passion and thought that went into creating such a poignant song.

He said that I would never be
A silhouette that he would want
I shifted shape and recreated me
The girl I was, I soon forgot
A love like that won't last long
So suddenly it all goes wrong
    When beauty starts to fade

But You say I am beautiful
    I don't need the world's approval
    Only you madly pursue me
    And jealously tell me
    I am worthy of
    Furious love

    -VERIDIA's Furious Love

"They picked their four greatest priests
    And they began to speak
They said "Lord the plague is on the world
    Lord no man is free
The temples that we built to you
    Have tumbled into the sea
Lord, if you won't take care of us
Won't you please please let us be?"

    And the Lord said

I burn down your cities--how blind you must be
I take from you your children and you say how blessed are we
You must all be crazy to put your faith in me
    That's why i love mankind"

    -Randy Newman
You will come to a place where the streets are not marked. Some windows are lighted but mostly they're darked. A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin. Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in? How much can you lose? How much can you win?

Sometimes a certain smell will take me back to when I was young,
How come I’m never able to identify where it’s coming from,
I’d make a candle out of it if I ever found it,
Try to sell it, never sell out of it, I’d probably only sell one,

It’d be to my brother, ‘cause we have the same nose,
Same clothes homegrown a stone’s throw from a creek we used to roam,
But it would remind us of when nothing really mattered,
Out of student loans and treehouse homes we all would take the latter.

My name is Blurryface and I care what you think.
My name is Blurryface and I care what you think.

Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days,
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.
Wish we could turn back time, to the good ol’ days,
When our momma sang us to sleep but now we’re stressed out.

We used to play pretend, give each other different names,
We would build a rocket ship and then we’d fly it far away,
Used to dream of outer space but now they’re laughing at our face,
Saying, "wake up, you need to make money."
    Yeah.

I have four songs so bear with me!

I really enjoy the chorus from Mikky Ekko- Smile:
Smile, the worst is yet to come
We'll be lucky if we ever see the sun
Got nowhere to go, we could be here for a while
But the future is forgiven, so smile

However, in recent months I've become more aquatinted with Twenty One Pilots and the lyricism in their song Car Radio is hard to beat:
    I ponder of something great
My lungs will fill and then deflate
    They fill with fire
    Exhale desire
    I know it's dire
    My time today

I would also recommend Hozier's "Arsonist's Lullaby". Its a lesser known beauty:
When I was 16, my senses fooled me
Thought gasoline was on my clothes
I knew that something would always rule me...
I knew the scent was mine alone

AND "This Too Shall Pass" by Danny Schmidt:
We think too big, we think our self is one whole thing
And we claim that this collection has a name and is a being
But deep inside, when every cell divides
It sets upon the rule that states self-interest is divine

"The sun will rise and we will try again" Truce, Twenty One Pilots

I found solace in the strangest place
Way in the back of my mind
I saw my life in a stranger's face
    And it was mine

I had a one-way ticket to a place where all the demons go
    Where the wind don't change
And nothing in the ground can ever grow
    No hope, just lies
And you're taught to cry in your pillow
    But I survived

    Alive - Sia

Brand New, The Amity Affliction, La Dispute and Being as an Ocean are all tied for me.

"Are you at all haunted by memories past?
Are you ready to make this one breath your last?
Is your chest so heavy you're ready to leave?
Or are you just hoping that someone will grieve?"- Chasing Ghosts, The Amity Affliction.

"Well, Jesus Christ, I'm alone again
So what did you do those three days you were dead?
'cause this problem's gonna last more than the weekend.

Well, Jesus Christ, I'm not scared to die,
I'm a little bit scared of what comes after
Do I get the gold chariot?
Do I float through the ceiling?
Do I divide and fall apart?" - Jesus Christ, Brand New

"I know that even with the seams stitched tightly, darling, scars will remain
I say we scrape them from each other, darling, and let them wash off in the rain
And when they run into the river, oh no, let the water not complain" - Nobody, not even the rain, La Dispute

"So tired, so tired of showing Love so deep
That most aren’t even willing to feel
    See what I’ve seen
Open your eyes and recognize that this is real
This season brings darkness so profound
I’ve become lost and can’t seem to be found
    Contorted, racked with pain
I know should feel free, yet I continue to sing this sad refrain
I can’t sleep and food has lost its taste
God, I’m so sick of this place"- This Loneliness Won't Be The Death of Me, Being As An Ocean.
