I can't imagine what your job entails. Do enlighten me.

Lol. Well, for my job particularly, it's a weird mix between being an assistant to my boss, working educational conferences/projects, marketing all the museum's educational programs, and selling all the programs/venues to schools.

Sounds like a unique job :)
On an unrelated note I watched Boys don't cry today. I don't know if you're aware of it, but it's about a transgender person that suffered from being born in the us.
It seems so odd to me. My aunt is a lesbian that seems to have a normal life, and when I studied (90s) I had a gay roommate and a trans person was enrolled in another class. I guess that isn't possible everywhere, but it should be.

Well, I think I am able to provide some hope that there are a lot of people in my generation who are working hard to make things like that socially accepted. I think we still have a ways to go and will need a few generations before things are really where they should be, but we do seem to be moving toward it, slowly as we are

I've never seen that movie but it sounds really interesting. Also, basically ditto to what turtle said. I think some things are a lot more accepted nowadays but we do still have a ways to go.

I'm glad you lot are hopeful. With the growing popularity of far right groups in europe, I find it a challenge. Voting today.

What are y'all voting for? Local elections?

Yeah. Regional politics now. Countrywide in two years.
So it's time to pick between education, environment, immigration, healthcare, economy and all the other things every two years.
Last election didn't end to my liking. I hope this one is better.

Wait. Sorry, what? Are you voting in government officials or like, policies? I just realized reading you comment that I really don't know much about your country's government. :cold_sweat:

Yeahl Every four years we vote on who gets into the country wide government (including our prime minister), and every four years we vote for local government ; seperated by two years. So every 2 years we vote for someone. And unlike the us, here you're only allowed to advertise like a month in advance, so we don't have half a year or more of not working leading up to elections. Also we have many parties that we can vote on, and they usually end up having to make alliances with other parties to get anything done, as no party has that huge a majority. Last election before yesterday our version of the racist party won the votes, but only had about a fifth of the total votes. They still managed to make the country worse of course, but it could've been worse if they had more votes.
Anyway, haven't had time to check the result of yesterday's votes. Got up late, and going to a Queen concert after work ; so my day's busy.

Ohh. Okay. That makes sense! I sometimes wish it was like that for American politics. Listening to 18 months of campaigning is just too much.

    Have fun at the concert!

Is that trip something you do with relative frequency or is it a big deal sort of thing?
  • NeiroAtOpelCcNeiroAtOpelCc Denmark (Als)Posts: 5,286 ✭✭✭

Neither really. I generally don't go to the capitol on private time, and if I go there for work I take a plane. But the trip is simply some hours of highway and bridges.

Well, that's good! We just had American thanksgiving yesterday so that was really nice. We had to make do with our not so completed kitchen though - stupid Hurricane!

You live in a hurricane hit area? All I know about the latest hurricanes is what I learned on Weasy Waiter ; so not a lot.
In any event, I just got home from something google translate calls a christmas lunch. The first time in many years where I am home this early (1:30) and yet I was one of the last to leave (normal).

  • KelliKelli TexasPosts: 2,706 ✭✭✭✭✭

Yeah, I live in Houston where Hurricane Harvey hit. It pretty much stopped the entire city for a whole week.

Do you celebrate Christmas this early?

We have such events thru work, family or frends most weekends the 5 weekends up to xmas. It's just an excuse to eat and drink.

Oh, nice! I just got home from celebrating "Nerdsgiving". The Facebook Nerdfighter community in my area has a thanksgiving meetup that we affectionally have dubbed "Nerdsgiving". Today was the 6th annual.
